A Journey To Hogwarts

One of the things that is difficult for me to understand is the lack of coffee shops in Seattle that are open LATE. Most coffee shops that I've come across close around 8 p.m. . . . 8 PM! What is THAT all about? Even in Austin, coffee shops stay open until 10 p.m. (at least from what I remember). There's even a Starbucks in Round Rock that's open 24 hours (drive through)! And up until recently, my neighborhood has been devoid of any truly local coffee shops—at least since I've lived here. But then my friend Kayleigh shared this gem with me . . . oh don't worry, you'll understand the pun in just a second . . . THE JEWEL BOX CAFE at Thornton Place. It's like 4 blocks from where I live, just across the street from the new movie theater.

This place is wonderful! They have great coffee, a swanky cool atmosphere, and they serve some yummy crepes and sandwiches. Ever since I found out about it, it's become my frequent hangout. I lovingly refer to it as Hogwarts cause the inside of it looks like something straight outta Harry Potter. It's so great that I now have a nice local coffee shop to come to. Today is just absolutely beautiful so I knew I HAD to come and get some yummy coffee and a sandwich. Here are some pics of my new hangout:

enjoying the beautiful sunny day

the entrance, the fireplace with couches in front of it

since it's so nice outside, they opened up the garage door side

The bonus feature? IT'S OPEN LATE!
I have a feeling that many a script/song/project will be worked on here :D

Wait For You

This coffee thermos is not just ANY coffee thermos. Okay, so maybe it is. But it's also cause for a funny story :D I went to a Light In The Darkness Banquet last night with the Westside staff and it brought back so many memories. From being greeted by the girl with (by far) the largest smile I've ever seen to the white and black ensemble that each server was wearing, I was reminded of many a banquet where I'd helped set up and serve. Usually when you are serving at a banquet, you are taught that the front row of tables are super important because that's where a lot of the VIPs and other special guests are seated. We were in the far left table on the front row (if you were looking out from the stage). And I'm pretty sure all the waitstaff thought we were "Table Nine" even though we were clearly table 7. ;)

We had eaten our meals and noticed that every other table but ours had a coffee thermos on it. So we asked for coffee. And we waited. And we waited. And we waited (I know, I know, I sound like a super brat right now) . . . Alas, no coffee. So then we asked again—about 20 mins. later, Jay walked out of the auditorium to ask someone to bring us coffee. About 5 mins. later, one of the servers comes into the auditorium with the coffee and she's ALMOST to our table, like 2 tables back and she's looking around at the tables to figure out which one to drop off the thermos. I keep trying to make eye contact with her to no avail, and she gives up and walks away as we are left sans coffee. So about another 20 mins. later, we're well into the program and Jay finally gets up again and walks back in WITH the beautiful thermos you see above. It took forever, but man, it felt SO great to have that coffee! :D

Sugar High

You wanna know one of my favorite things to do here in Seattle?

Breakfast at Caffe Ladro

I must thank Leah for introducing me to the wonder that IS Caffe Ladro ;)

this place is where it's at for that quick cup-o-joe before work
I am a HUGE fan of all things coffee and their lattes can do no wrong. :D

And what's even more awesome is the baristas that work there. Right now the only ones I know by name are Honnah and Susan, but the guys that work there are amazing as well. I will learn their names eventually. But they're great. They are such great people to talk to and they have great taste in music and they have fun working together, which makes the environment that much funner. I love walking in and they're all making coffee and singing along to some Smashing Pumpkins or Bon Iver or Joan Jett tune and it's just so refreshing to start the morning off with great coffee, free wi-fi, and yummy breakfast foods.

I have been a Starbucks girl for the longest, and don't get me wrong, I still enjoy Starbucks from time to time, but Caffe Ladro is where it's at on workday mornings :D

Just thought I'd share :D

Cookie Jar

hey hey hey!

Okay, so today was our first softball scrimmage!  I didn't get any pics (sad, i know) but I will for sure when we play our FIRST game next Saturday! wheee!!

No MAJOR injuries today, though I DID slightly pull the muscles in my quads... but a warm bath and Icy Hot make things much better!  I'm having so much fun playing ball again and I LOVE my team!  They're so fun!

One cool thing though, is that I got to go yesterday to the "GREEN" Starbucks on First and Pike and it was amazing!  I tried a Cafe Misto and loved it! yum to the o!

Then I got to go see OBSESSED with Sheree.  It was cool!  It's one of those movies I really appreciate because I'm hoping that somewhere, some crazy overtly obsessed chick is gonna watch it and realize that when you obsess over someone that you know that doesn't love you back... you need to walk away.  There are, in fact, other fish in the sea.

Kinda reminds me of Shutter in a way... which is another movie I love.  At the end, when the chick is sitting on his shoulders, it's all I could do to be like... Listen lady.  LET GO.  Move on!  It's not worth it spending your life chasing after someone who's not gonna love YOU in all your fantastic unique glory.

So yeah, good weekend all around.  Got a LOT of screenwriting done and I'm loving the way the stories are progressing!  Feels so good to be organized and free flowing with the creativity!  :D
