Laughing With

I've been noticing as of late, my different laughs. I have a different laugh for so many things. I USED to laugh like The Count from Sesame Street—you know, that "One rubber ducky, Ha! Two rubber duckies, HA HA!" It was weird. I've since outgrown it.

But I am quite the laughing anomaly. When I laugh, I really get into it. Sometimes it's really hard to stop. I'm like a giant tickle me Amanda—it's ridiculous. I remember when my old home church used to have pews instead of chairs, and I would be sitting in the service and the pastor would say something humorous. A lot of times, it was only humorous to me, because of the WAY he would say something or because something he said triggered another memory of something funny. I really have a hard time focusing during teachings as it is, so my mind always wandered. This would only be a minor problem if I didn't feel the need to add commentary along with my giggles, which only leads to more giggles. So then like, the whole pew would be shaking cause of my laughing. My friend Don would always let me know. ;) Gosh I was SUCH a distraction. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20, eh?

Anyway . . . all of that to say:

I have an issue with typing or saying LOL. I always say ha ha ha ha ha, and I type it out for as long as I'm actually laughing. I don't know why, I just get hung up with saying LOL. I don't mind when others do it, I just can't bring myself to do it.

I wonder if there's a support group for this . . .

I have to agree with you on the LOL...I just can't do it. I'm a HAHA or HA person myself...not to be confused with HA - as in Hells Alternative. Thanks. (**queue in DK with his vic schober voice...Heaven Yes, Hell No!)

Oh my gosh! that was the WORST! when he would say "Heaven yes, Hell NO!" I lost it EVERY TIME!!! Or when he sang, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart . . . and lean not . . ." just like a lounge singer! crack me up!

I have different laughs in different situations too. It kind of makes sense, though, because different situations aren't necessarily humorous in the same way.

As for LOL, when I'm actually laughing, in real life, I type "Hahaha..." (or "HAHAHAHA..." as the situation requires) but I still use LOL. Sometimes I use it ironically or as a space filler, but usually it's an expression of general amusement. I know it's overused (cliché to some extent) and I also totally understand why many people dislike it, unfortunately I just usually assume (maybe unreasonably) that people will understand how I'm using it, by context or familiarity. I guess they probably don't though, since I think this is the first time I've ever explained it.

...LOL

P.S. My word verification is "damiming". I could see that word factoring heavily in the sermons of stutter-prone fundamentalist pastors.

P.P.S. Or maybe the hih-hop circus. "And now let me direct your attention to ring number three, where da miming is about to begin!"

No, see, I like LQTM (laugh quietly to myself). That's the best one. And it's more honest.
